Professional musicians in Lebanon are often overlooked as world-class performers. However, these days an awareness of local talent and ability is on the rise.

Edict Records, an independent record label based in Beirut is becoming one of the motivators of local talent. They have signed several local musicians of all genres ranging from jazz, to contemporary oriental music with the intention of giving local artists a more prominent presence in the scene both locally and, with time, internationally as well.

Moreover, Edict Records will be hosting a 3-day event on the 2nd of February 2012 at the Sunflower Theater. Each night, a local Lebanese band will be performing a selection of their interpretations of well known musical standards, as well as their original compositions.

Starting on the 2nd, The Khoury/Yassine Duo will kick off the event with their original material comprised of percussion (Tableh and Frame) along with Elie Khoury on Oud and Buzuk. Combining complementary instruments like the ones mentioned above is an art form in itself, making it sound wholesome and complete with only 2 people is an ability showing true aptitude.

The 3rd of February will showcase The Tarek Yamani Trio, which will treat the audience to several new songs from their upcoming album “Ashur”, which is soon to be released under Edict Records. Drummer Kristijan Krajncan and tuba player Goran Krmac will be accompanying Tarek Yamani for a Jazz experience not to be missed.

Finally, on the 4th of February, an all-star “super group” will come together and perform as the Basel Rajoub Quartet. This band includes master percussionist Khaled Yassine, Feras Shahrestane on Qanun, Elie Afif on Double Bass, and Basel Rajoub on Saxophone, playing the best in contemporary oriental music from their upcoming album “Asia”.

Don’t miss 3 nights of brilliant and eclectic music at the Sunflower Theater starting on the 2nd of February! Check out ScoopCity’s deal where you can get a 3-Day pass to see all 3 shows for $20!
