Bras for a cause finally reached the final stages of their breast cancer awareness campaign last night, with their official Beirut Fashion Show organized by Fustany.com and One Wig Stand.
The event took place in the Venue of Beirut Souks on September 29, 2011. All proceeds from the Bras for a Cause campaign, including the Dubai fashion show taking place later this month, will be donated to six Middle Eastern organizations that help breast cancer patients and survivors.
ScoopCity attended the Fashion show to bring you the inside Scoop of how it all went.
Walking through the Beirut Souks into what looks like an industrial venue, hidden at the end of one of the alleyways, Bras for a cause have dressed an underground-looking setting in pink and white, turning a mundane somewhat boring room into a warm and fashion chic setting. The entrance is filled with stands of cupcakes, candy floss, picture booths and tons of fun.
Entering the room, an aisle of white lights separates it into two rows of fabulous people sitting at either side, eagerly waiting for the show to begin. Beautiful soft pink lights bounce off the walls immersing the crowd into the theme of the evening.
Local cover band Black Honey opened the show with stunning vocals by Pascale Succar bringing life and excitement before the start of the speeches.
A quick welcome speech by the organizers Loryne Atoui and Amira Azzouz was followed by 3 vastly different women – all of course, brought together by their experience with Breast Cancer. Dr. Yolande Badre, Mrs Rana Salam – designer and creator of “The Secret life of Syrian Lingerie” – and finally Mrs. Evelyne Accad – breast cancer survivor – spoke about their experience with the disease, the pain and the healing process. Mrs. Evelyne Accad then proceeded to sing a song entitled “Emmène moi vers la guérison” (“Take me towards the healing”) that was written during her fight against breast cancer … “There is hope and there is hope in healing…” she says.
The speeches were followed by a short yet interesting gymnastic act, blending oriental and modern music and dance moves. The final act before the fashion show began was an amateur young duo singing a cover of “Beautiful People” by Chris Brown.
On the far end of the stage was DJ Dimix mixing dance tunes and club music as the Fashion show begins. An array of designer clothes was paraded down the long white runway, the models hips swaying in synchrony with every beat of the music. Each piece showcased in this fashion event was gracefully donated by the designers and brands in support of the cause.
Expecting to see a small number of items (those of the winners and a few more) I was blown away by the number of impressive international and local designers featured on the runway, with items varying from tops, skirts, dresses and of course bras. Not only was I amazed at the range of clothing being paraded in front of me, but each piece was as different in style one another as the models wearing them. The professionalism and quality of the organizing team was evident throughout the event and what I expected to be a small 10 minute show for charity was in fact a runway alive with beats, color, women, clothes and of course bras!
Although certain girls were more comfortable on stage than others, the event had a general feel of fun and letting loose that shined through every aspect and detail. The models were dancing during their walk down the aisle, smiling, laughing at their friends and loving the camera attention as they reached the end of the catwalk before turning back to change into a new outfit.
The fashion show exhibited a large number of different pieces, but as the name of the event goes “Bras for a cause” I will focus my attention on the beautifully designed, colorful, exciting bra models fashioned that evening! From crazy, extravagant bras to day to day wear, each held my attention for the time it deserved. There were soft colors, extremely bright blues and greens, lady bugs, diamonds, glitter and event a bra covered in spikes.
I see this beautiful woman walking towards the end of the aisle in a soft pink bra covered in what I thought were hundreds of small glittery diamonds… much to my surprise the closer she got, the more I noticed they were not delicate diamonds at all, but tons of sliver spikes coming out the cups of the bras! She was closely followed by another interesting item, one that I can only describe as spring and happiness merged into an underwear garment! Half way between a regular bra and a corset, this item was a flashy baby blue with hints of pink, yellow, white and green and had lady bugs, fruits and funky designs all over it!
As a women I appreciate the nature of different bras, some are sexy, some fun, some comfortable and more often than not you want to find something that fits your personality! The designs showcased at “Bras for a Cause” were definitely a great combination of many feminine traits and emotions.
The models took their final appearances showing off a few ‘haute couture’ dresses.
Local indie rockers Lazzy Lung closed the show. Rocking out tracks to their debut album they gave the final touch of energy that this evening needed to end on an even bigger high. Those of us who stuck around until their performance even exchanged some crazy moves on the runway ourselves!
Everyone involved did so to promote a cause they believe in; all acts, organizers, designers, speakers, models and sponsors were volunteering their time and products to give breast cancer the importance it deserves.
I left with a beautiful feeling of lightheartedness, fun and positivity! This was after all a charity event and not just a regular, serious fashion show – and it showed!
